Lion Dancing

A honoured tradition

school flag

In addition to our regular training sessions we are also one of the few styles to have the honour of performing lion dancing in Sydney’s Chinatown. These events involve the whole school, and are the major social events of the year.

We perform twice a year during the Chinese New Year and August Moon festival in the streets of Sydney’s Chinatown and in various restaurants or at other special events at the holiday time.

Lion Dancing is an integral part of our group. The Lion symbolically brings good luck and chases away evil at these times of celebration. The dancing, music and acrobatics are our part of this Chinese tradition.

Children love to participate, and there are opportunities for interested people to learn the drum and other traditional musical instruments as well as learning the complexities of the Lion Dance itself.
